Herpetofauna – Tortoises, Krka National Park Croatia
Website Operation Wallacea
Operation Wallacea is a conservation research organisation working across a range of countries and ecosystems worldwide.
We are currently recruiting for a volunteer herpetofauna scientist to work at our Croatia site, based in Krka National Park. Positions will ideally be for several weeks between 6th June and 6th August, and you can find more information on our website. If you are interested but can’t commit to the full time period please still get in touch!
The position will involve conducting targeted surveys on Hermann’s tortoises to support data collection by dissertation students. When not focused on the Hermann’s tortoise, you can be involved in reptile and amphibian standard searches on transects, processing sessions of herpetofauna and dusk surveys as part of a large-scale monitoring programme around our survey sites. Applicants should have experience working in the field, a biological undergraduate degree level or higher, and extensive survey experience, ideally with tortoise knowledge and marking experience. You will be working as part of a larger staff team to deliver field courses to people looking to get a headstart into the field of ecology and conservation, so any previous teaching experience is also valuable.
In return, successful applicants receive full accommodation and food on-site, potential current and future research opportunities, networking and skills development, and, of course, the opportunity to contribute towards long-term conservation efforts.
The position will be filled when we find a suitable candidate, so if you are interested, please reach out as soon as you can to give yourself the best chance. The position involves working with minors, so if successful, you will be asked to complete a background check.
